Phun is a great-looking program that is probably easier to show than to describe without getting too technical, so here’s a video:

Unfortunately, I haven’t tried it myself as it’s not yet available for the Mac, but I can see that it would be a great tool for teachers to demonstrate basic physics to children.

We all know how important backups are for computer users, but now the same is also true of many mobile phones, including mine (and possibly yours): the Apple iPhone.

Every time you synchronise your iPhone with your computer, iTunes creates a backup file so that all your data can be restored if something goes wrong. And, given enough time, something always does go wrong, so it’s important that this backup is useful. That means that you should have a good copy of the backup that you can use in the event that the syncing of your iPhone overwrites the main backup made by iTunes.

In order to create this second backup, all you need to do is to locate the backup files and copy them to another location. Ideally, this location should be somewhere other than on the computer you use to sync your iPhone, and preferably in a different building. Storing it (securely) online is probably the easiest way to do this. If you’re using a Mac, the files you want are at:

[Your User Name]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

If you’re on Windows, go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\SyncServices\Local

Even if you don’t do this regularly (and you should – you could even use Automator to do it for you if you’re on a Mac), it’s worth doing it at least once. Going back to where you were x number of days/weeks/months ago is always less painful than having to start from scratch after losing all your data.
